This week’s theme is Favourite Part of NZ. I have been calling New Zealand home for almost 9 years now and I truly love it here. This country is so beautiful and it’s also filled with lovely people. I’ve lived in Auckland ever since and I could’ve easily picked this city.
Queenstown is absolutely beautiful. I don’t think you can take a bad photo of the place. Everywhere I looked is photogenic. I was amazed that I live in such an amazing country and I want to share with you the best parts of our Queenstown holiday.
We went in September and we were lucky to have great weather for our entire stay. Before you even land in Queenstown, you get this magnificent view of the snowy mountains.
We stayed at Novotel which has the best location. Lake Wakatipu was right outside our hotel.
Towards the left of our hotel is the Queenstown Gardens. I love this place. I woke up early every day and walked by myself. It was so serene in the morning and I loved having the time to clear my head, relax and enjoy the view. It was a great way to start the day.
The town itself is small but also has great views. There are heaps of cafes, restaurants and shops around.
We wanted to check an ice bar so we went to Below Zero. It was a great experience. We played ice air hockey on the table and chilled. Haha
We also had great food. There are so many food choices in Queenstown and for our first night we opted for fine dining. I could make a separate post for the food places/restaurants we’ve tried alone because they were all good.
You also can’t miss going to Skyline Queenstown where you take the gondola up and have fun in the luge. We’ve been to the Rotorua one but this beats it by a mile because of the stunning views.
This is what you get from the Queenstown Skyline deck. What a beauty!
If you have a sweet tooth like me, you have to go to The Remarkable Sweet Shop. They have one right in town and also in the airport. I basically tried all the flavours as I went in every day. I didn’t buy anything during our holiday except for fudge and lollies from this store. They’re so good! They’re also great to take home for friends and family.
What I recommend the most is Onsen Hot Pools. It is amazing. We got picked up from town and dropped off afterwards. They have great service and we think it was worth it.
You basically get a private room with a hot tub and you have the option to put the roof up and enjoy the view. This was just pure bliss. It was a last minute decision to go here but it was the perfect end to our actual anniversary since we flew to/from Milford Sound that morning.
There are so many other things I could say and recommend but this post is photo-heavy already. We didn’t just go to Queenstown either. We drove to Arrowtown and Wanaka and then flew to Milford Sound which are also amazing places. Milford Sound is a whole different level because we had an experience of a lifetime there but I’ll save that story for next time. Let me know if you’re interested to know more about our trip. I might end up doing a travel series on this blog.
I hope you enjoyed this post. This just made me want to go back so badly. Queenstown is such a special place and I’m so lucky I live in this country.

Highlight of our trip was the Milford Sound tour via a plane ride. It wasn’t cheap but so worth it. Even better through that bookme website. I’ll write about it soon. 🙂

Queenstown would easily have been my pick if I didn’t miss Auckland so much!

I briefly read your post earlier and you did mention that. Queenstown was an easy choice but Auckland and Whangamata are tied at place 🙂

Oh MAN I want to goto Queenstown – your photos are just beautiful! I really love the idea of the Onsen Hot Pools, I would love to go down there for a week or so and just relax and unwind. I’ve never been that far south in NZ (well I haven’t been further than Blenheim). I think I need to remedy this asap

Thank you! I took so many photos it was so hard to choose only a few.
I highly recommend it! It’s just so beautiful. I need to go back there. Onsen Hot Pools is great. Not cheap but you can’t get that experience elsewhere. You can do it at night too for more romantic setting under the stars. I haven’t been to many places in NZ but I’m glad we’ve ticked Queenstown on the list. I wish we were there for 2 weeks because there are so many things to do. You won’t regret it if you ever go! 😄
