Have you heard of the brand Academy of Colour? I haven’t so when I saw this nail polish quartet set in Kmart, it went straight to my basket. I saw this before Christmas and thought it would have been a great stocking filler or secret santa present.
This AOC In the Nude nail polish set comes with four shades of nail polishes. If you want to see some swatches and my initial review, continue below.
This is the packaging it came in when I saw it in store.
I was instantly attracted to it as the shades are nice and wearable. I like the gold cap and the bottle design too.
The four shades have names: Woosh, Goldrush, Nouveau and Lola.
What surprised me the most is the bottle packaging of the nail polishes. I was glad that when I lifted the gold cap, there is another screw cap on the bottle. The shape and design is very similar to Butter London nail polish bottles.
The set was $7 at Kmart so even before trying it on, I already thought this was great value for money. The packaging is better than other brands in my opinion and it feels more expensive too because of the similarity to Butter London.
Moving on to the actual polishes,
I’ve swatched all of them in my nail polish wheel.
There are two really shimmery polishes which is Nouveau and Goldrush. Woosh and Lola have slight shimmer too but it’s quite subtle. When I swatched them, they were quite opaque and these were two coats.
I love nude nail polish so I opted to try Woosh on my nails first.
The brush is not too thin or too thick and I found it distributed the polish well on my nails. Woosh is a lovely light grey-cream nude shade that goes well with everything.
Here’s Woosh on my nails. I put two coats on and it’s completely opaque.
As for the wear, I didn’t have a base coat on but I did put a top coat and my nails lasted a good 4-5 days before there was any noticeable chipping.
For the price of the set, I’m pretty impressed with these polishes from the packaging to the formula. The next one I’ll try is Lola but I think Nouveau would be a good shade for winter.
If you know where else to get AOC or Academy of Colour products besides Kmart, let me know. From my quick google search, they’re only available online at Debenhams in the UK. I’d like to get my hands on more.
