Disappointing Products

I’ve only ever talked about my favourite products here in my blog but for a change, I thought I’d share the ones that I’ve tried and didn’t like. I’ve tried so many beauty products tin the last year that it’s impossible for me to like everything so today’s post will feature my disappointing beauty products.

I’ll start off with haircare.

I bought these Natural World Argan Oil of Morocco shampoo and conditioner from one of those Big Bucket deals. The bottles are huge and they were fairly inexpensive so I wanted to try it. I’ve bought another argan oil shampoo and conditioner brand from the same sale and loved that one but this, not so much.

This pair really didn’t do anything for my hair. My sister bought a shampoo and conditioner from this brand too and she hated it. For me, it wasn’t as bad but the shampoo didn’t lather as much as other shampoos that I felt like I had to wash my hair twice. The conditioner was a bit watery and was moisturising. My hair didn’t feel softer using these two and that’s why they’re on this list.

Another haircare product is this Co Lab dry shampoo in the New York fragrance. I got this when I went to Melbourne last year (see this big Melbourne beauty haul) and I still have half a bottle left. I swear by my Batiste dry shampoo and go through that so quickly so for me to have had this for a year means I truly don’t like it.

I’ve watched people talk about this on Youtube so I was quite excited to try it and it was even more disappointing when I used it due to the hype. This didn’t do a good job of taming my greasy scalp and at times I thought it even made it shinier. The only thing I liked about it is the scent.

I’ve tried a bunch of skincare products over the years and I have a lot of disappointing ones. However, these are the ones I’ve still kept in my drawers.

I’ve posted about the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water last year when I bought it and I talked about how it didn’t work for me in that post. It wasn’t as amazing as I expected it to be. I continued using it anyway because I hate wasting product and money but my opinion hasn’t changed. It’s not great at taking mascara off and my skin doesn’t agree with it.

The other two are both from Formula 10.0.6. I got the Seriously Shine Free moisturiser and the So Totally Clean toner. I got them in a set which included a facial wash because they had a deal on at Farmers. A few weeks before I bought them, my sister has tried a different set for her dry skin and she said she really likes it. I thought I’d give them a go but unfortunately it didn’t work.

The facial wash of this line was great and I’m pretty sure my skin didn’t agree to the moisturiser as my face felt tingly and warm every time I put it on. It wasn’t uncomfortable but I was worried my skin felt like it was slowly burning every time I used it. As for the toner, it was nothing special and I didn’t like the scent. It also felt too strong for my skin.

disappointing makeup products

My last items are makeup that I didn’t like/didn’t work for me.

The first one if the e.l.f. Acne Fighting Foundation. I’ve wanted to try this for ages but it’s not easily available here in NZ. I have oily and acne-prone skin so I thought this would be perfect but I was let down. First of all, I totally got the wrong shade which was my fault. I got it from iHerb and they only had 2 shades. I chose Ivory which is 2 shades too light for me. The main reason I didn’t like it is the consistency. It’s so thick and almost hard to blend/look natural on the skin. This took so long to have a decent ‘flawless’ finish and it didn’t last long either. Halfway through the day, this foundation would break and my skin would look patchy and oily.

In the middle is the Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm. A few years ago I was obsessed with the Baby Lips lip balms and got them in different flavours/scents but I realised that they’re not really moisturising at all. I think I got sucked into the packaging and cuteness. This Baby Lips Color is the only tube I have left but basically I don’t like the whole range any more as my lips would feel drier after use.

blinc mascara

Lastly, I have the Blinc Mascara. I got this in my Talk Beauty goodie bag and I was so excited to try it because it’s meant to coat your lashes in a different way which is better in the long run. This is meant to ‘tube’ your lashes and they will come off in tubes/clumps as well instead of running through your face and having panda eyes.

When I opened it, it had a plastic seal around it so I knew it was brand new. However, this mascara was dried up. Well, compared to my other mascaras, the formula was so dry that it just clumped on my lashes and it took forever to put it on. I tried heating the tube up too before using it and it didn’t make a difference. In the end I just gave up because it was so hard to work with. I don’t know if I got a dud but I expected it to be better and that’s why I was so disappointed.

The best part about the mascara is removing it because it falls off by clumps so they were right about the no streaks and panda eyes.

I didn’t want this post to be such a downer but I hope you didn’t mind me sharing the products that didn’t work me. It doesn’t mean these won’t work for others but I just didn’t get along with these. Let me know if you’ve tried the products above though as I want to know what you think about them too!
