Sydney Trip Part 1

Last December, I had two trips to Sydney. Today’s post is all about my first trip with my sister. It was our first time in Sydney and first overseas trip together. We had an amazing time and experienced how hot Australian summer can be.

Just a warning that this post would be photo-heavy as I want to share the highlights of our trip. We only had a few days in Sydney so our main goal was to shop til we drop. I didn’t take a lot of photos when we were shopping because it was too hot, crowded and I had my hands full with shopping bags. Shopping in Sydney was definitely a highlight because we got great bargains and I finally experienced Sephora.

Although shopping was our main agenda, we managed to squeeze some sight-seeing. We couldn’t really go to Sydney without visiting the famous Opera House.

On the day we went, the temperature in Sydney rose to 38 degrees. It was way too hot so we didn’t walk around for too long. It was great seeing the Harbour Bridge and Opera House though and that we’ve ticked that off our list.

This is where we took plenty of photos and selfies because the view was great. There was a massive cruise ship docked too and the city was bustling with people.

After being out under the hot sun, we wanted to cool off so we headed to the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The MCA is located at The Rocks and within walking distance of the Opera House and Circular Quay. It’s only a few levels but it’s airconditioned inside so it was a great escape from the heat. The view from the rooftop is also great.

Lastly, the rest of my photos are all about food. I thoroughly enjoyed all my meals in Sydney. We did pretty well because I don’t think we had a bad meal at all. We either got lucky or because Sydney has a great food selection.

My top recommendation will have to be Gelato Messina. We both love gelato and on a scorching day, it was the perfect thing to eat.

The flavour selection was amazing and I highly recommend the Coconut & Pandan gelato. It was the best gelato flavour I’ve ever had and I miss it so much.

Going to Ladurée was unplanned but I stumbled upon it while we were inside the Westfield Mall.

I wish I can remember the exact flavours that we got but I think we had lemon, strawberry, pistachio and salted caramel. We also had the special macaron covered in gold. The macarons were great. The flavours were subtle but identifiable. The texture and filling were also spot on. I now understand why people love Ladurée.

You also have to check these places out:

zumbo

Zumbo Patisserie. The selection looked great and well-presented.

guylian

Guylian cafe on the way to the Opera House was also beautiful. It smelled so good when we walked past that we couldn’t resist going in. Their tarts, gateaux and of course, chocolates looked amazing.

Here are some snaps from my phone:

We had a great flight and we flew Air NZ. Our flights were great and I watched 3 movies in total. For accommodation, we stayed at The Pullman. The location of the hotel was great because it was close to the train station, shops and restaurants. We had two big comfy beds and we enjoyed our stay.

As I said at the start, I didn’t really take too many photos while we were shopping but I managed to take a few.

Zara Home is beautiful and I wanted everything in there. It is home decor heaven. H&M is where I got the most items but my favourite store is UNIQLO because it’s amazing and I wish we have it here in NZ.

We also went to Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre which is an easy bus ride from the city. The mall was open and it had a great view too. They had Victoria’s Secret where my sister scored a beautiful summer bag and great brands.

sephora

It was also my first time ever stepping inside Sephora. It was an experience because there were so many products. The city store was so busy. I actually didn’t go crazy in Sephora because Priceline is my love.

I wish my sister and I had more time because there were still so many things to explore in Sydney but overall, I’m so glad she was with me because we had a great time. Although it was sweltering, exploring the city and shopping together was awesome. I hope this won’t be the last sister trip we do together.

I hope you enjoyed this snippet of my trip first trip to Sydney. I was in a different area on my second trip and I’ll talk more about it on my next post.

I remember being your Insta Story that hot summer day… this was probably the hottest summer we’ve had and I totally didn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted. You’ve taken some really nice pictures of Sydney and hope you come visit again soon!
