I mostly share my beauty favourites here on my blog but to change it up a bit, I wanted to share some of the items I’ve been loving that don’t really fit into the beauty category. This favourites post has a good mixture from technology, health and fitness to books and TV shows. So if you want to know what I’ve been loving recently, check out below.
The first thing and probably the thing I’ve owned the longest in this favourites post is my Fitbit Alta. Back in December, during the Boxing Day/New Years sales, I finally got myself one as an early birthday gift. I initially bought a different fitness band, UP Jawbone but it didn’t work so I returned it and got this instead.
I didn’t expect to like my Fitbit as much but I really do. I work in an office and in front of a computer all day so it’s interesting to see how many steps I can do in one day and the things I do to achieve my step goal. In January, I was literally dancing in my house listening to The Greatest Showman soundtrack to meet my step goal. It was great. Haha
I chose the Fitbit Alta because of how thin it is. I knew if I got the bigger ones that I wouldn’t wear it every day. I basically only take my Fitbit off at night. I can track my sleep but I like sleeping without it on. In the photo above, you can see I have the metal strap too and I highly recommend getting a metal Fitbit strap from Wish or Aliexpress. My wrist got irritated by the original silicone strap and I’ve never had a problem after changing it to a metal one.
Next up is my Nespresso machine. I got this for my birthday in January and it’s the best. I don’t buy coffee during the week any more as I just make myself a cup and drink it on the way to work. This is probably the most use appliance in my kitchen along with the milk frother from Kmart.
Frank Green Cup
Related to coffee is my Frank Green reusable cup. Now, if you’ve been following me on Instagram stories, you would’ve noticed this cup as it often makes an appearance. I cannot recommend this enough. I love it so much. It’s cute and you can get it in so many colours, it’s spill-proof and you can open and close it using one hand. I hold this cup sideways when I’m walking to the bus stop and my coffee has never spilled. I also find the cup easy to hold. I got mine from Mightyape but you can get them online and at select cafes around NZ.
Silicone Face Cleansing Brush
This is beauty related but it’s also techy as it’s a silicone face cleansing brush. I really feel like all the makeup and dirt comes off when I use this instead of just a normal cleanser or micellar water. It vibrates and it has different settings to massage and cleanse your skin. This particular one is rechargeable and waterproof so I use it in the shower. I find this better than the normal bristle face cleansing brushes too because the silicone makes it more hygienic.
This was a gift from my sister but I’ve previously bought a mini version of this from Wish/Aliexpress. If you want one, I recommend getting a cheaper one from Wish instead of forking out $50+ on one from other websites or $200 for a Foreo brush. You can get this from Wish for as low as $10NZ. Honestly, I’d save my money because they would likely be the same anyway. I also use mine every day and I haven’t charged it since using it from the first week of January.
iPhone case with ring
I wanted to include because I always get comments in person about my phone case. I cannot have a phone without a ring any more. I’m so dependent on the ring that I feel weird holding a phone without one. I get all my phone cases from Wish for $5-10NZ. I love having the ring because it prevents me from dropping my phone and it’s great if you like watching videos.
The ring acts like a stand so it’s great when I watch Youtube videos. It’s so handy so I highly recommend this especially if you have a big phone.
Call Me By Your Name is sensual and captivating. The book is more vivid than the movie but the movie is also beautiful. From the setting, the language and emotion, I was enthralled.
We Should All Be Feminists is a book everyone should read. It’s only $10 from Book Depository and it’s thin so it doesn’t take long to read it. It’s the author’s personal take on what it takes to be a woman and why it’s so important that we value women.
Queer Eye on Netflix
If you have Netflix and haven’t watched Queer Eye, what the hell are you doing?! This show is what everyone is talking about and for good reason. This show is a reboot and I absolutely love the new Fab 5: Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness and Tan France. This show is emotional but in a good way. I’ve watched it twice and I’d gladly watch it again. I really hope they have a second season because 8 episodes were not enough. All of them are fabulous but my absolutely favourite is Jonathan. Please watch it. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
For movies, my all time favourite has to go to The Greatest Showman. I never watch a movie twice in cinemas but I did for this movie and I’d do it again. I love musicals (although I hated La La Land) and this was so good. The songs made me feel so much emotion and the song This Is Me has become my life anthem. It’s not historically accurate and it wasn’t meant to be but what’s more important is the message behind the film. I left the movie feeling motivated, hopeful and good. I don’t know if it’s still showing in the cinemas but I recommend it.
I thought I’d mention Black Panther too because I watched it recently and I also really enjoyed it.
That’s all for my ‘lifestyle’ favourites from the past few months. I hope you liked this random favourites pos.
