There has been a lot of hype about this product. It was even sold out in some stores and supermarkets here in NZ. It seems like everyone is crazy about it so I decided to give it a try and see what the fuss is about.
First of all, the bottle is huge. I bought mine at Countdown for $12.99. I have also seen it in The Warehouse, Farmers and Pak’nSave.
I have heard of other micellar water but this is the first one I have tried. I don’t really know much about micellar water but from the bottle, it says that Micells are an active cleansing ingredient that captures impurities, makeup and sebum on the skin without vigorous rubbing.
This claims to be an all-in-one cleanser that removes makeup and cleanses your face without the need for rinsing. It is meant to be suitable for all skin types and it is also fragrance free.
I expected this to be absolutely amazing because I have read so many bloggers and youtubers rave about it. However, I was disappointed.
I liked this at first. It did remove my makeup but it still requires a lot of effort. I used 3-4 cotton pads every time which to me is a bit wasteful and I still felt the need to wash my face. I don’t believe it fully cleanses the skin and I still used a facial wipe afterwards just to make sure. You’d be using more cotton pads too if you have liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara on.
It also broke me out. I don’t have super sensitive skin but I have acne-prone skin. My skin has been okay before I used this and I didn’t change anything else in my routine either but I noticed after a week that I have small bumps/pimples which I never usually get. I get the big annoying kind so I know it wasn’t the usual for me. I’ve read a few gals on Beauty Review had similar issues too.
Overall, it’s not a horrible product but I don’t think it is as amazing as everyone says it is. It is just okay. I’ll use it to remove eye makeup from now on but not for my whole face and I’d stick to my usual facial wipes which seems to do the trick anyway.
The good thing about this product is the price. It’s fairly inexpensive so even if it didn’t work on me, it wasn’t a complete waste of money.
I’ve heard this also works as a makeup brush cleaner. I haven’t tried it out myself but next time I clean my brushes, I’ll definitely give it a go.
Another thing I bought at the same time is the Collection Cosmetics Lasting Perfection Concealer. I got the lightest shade and I’ve been using it under my eyes. I like it so far but I have to use it more to have a better opinion on it. Let me know if you want me to do a review.
Have you tried these two products? Did you like them? Leave a reply below. 🙂

It sounds like I have similar skin to you – so I might not try the cleansing water! If they did a smaller bottle size I might try it to clean my brushes though! Absolutely love the Collection concealer, I have it in the lightest shade too and it works really well to brighten my under eye are! x

The Garnier Micellar water is cheap for the big bottle but it’s a waste if it doesn’t work on me. I have used it to clean my brush and it works better than on my skin. I won’t repurchase for sure.
Yes, the Collection concealer is amazing. It has such a good coverage and brightens well. 🙂

Hmm, on the contrary I am really pleased with the Micellar water from Garnier and I only have to use 2 cotton pads (for the face and then for the eyes). It’s really a hit or miss with products it seems. But it sure sucks to have high expectations of something end then ending up not liking it. I had the same issue with Rimmel’s Wake Me Up concealer.

it’s great that this product worked on you. It really is a hit and miss with products. Just the hype over it made me expect more but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I did use it as a brush cleaner and it’s better for that so at least I have another use for it. On the other hand, I quite like the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer. I use it almost every day under my eyes. 🙂

This product broke me out too! I have oily/combo and acne prone skin and it left me with mega dry patches (particularly on my oily areas funnily enough). I’ve heard that the simple micellar water is meant to be a lot more gentle and less stripping, so I might give that a whirl eventually. It seems to almost “over cleanse” and I find it does an awful job at removing mascara, water proof or not. If you’re looking for a good make up remover I highly recommend the body shop camomile cleansing oil!

Yeah I have oily skin as well and I did notice that straight after it made my skin super dry. I also heard the Simple micellar water is quite good. I’ll try it one day but I won’t rush into it. I think micellar water is too hyped up for what they are. I used 3-4 cotton pads on each eye alone when I was testing how well it removed eye liner and Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. It didn’t perform as well as I hoped.
That’s the one that Youtubers like Essie Button loves. I have a Clinique cleansing milk which I’m trying to use up which works as well. It stings the eye though. Haha

I find the cleansing oil removes any mascara, even they’re real! Does sting the eyes or anything! Yes I definitely think it uses way too many cotton pads, and it’s more of a lazy option rather than a replacement for a proper cleanser.

I like both of these! I use the micellar water to take my makeup off most days, but I always cleanse properly afterwards. I was sent the concealer by collection and it has mainly replaced my mac pro longwear concealer! it’s so good.

It doesn’t feel right just using the micellar water and not washing my face afterwards. It sucks it didn’t work on me but I think it is too hyped up though. I’m loving the concealer at the moment. Do you use it for blemishes or for under eyes? Mine is the lightest shade so I can only use it under the eyes but I’m keen to try a darker shade better for blemishes.

I use it for blemishes, in the second shade, I use their illuminating concealer under my eyes. People always seem to get crazy over new products and it’s soo easy to get caught up in it.
