NZFW: RUBY

The last New Zealand Fashion Week show I watched on Thursday was RUBY. It was the only off-site show I watched too and it was in a Wilson Carpark near K Road.

We had to be there early for the NZFW Backstage blog and when we got there, the two top levels of the car park was closed off for the show. It was un unusual place to have a runway but RUBY made it work.

See below for more runway photos.

Backstage, the hair and makeup were in the narrow corridor by the lifts. After I’ve done the interviews for hair, makeup and designer, we waited for the show to start.

When I spoke to the designer Deanna Didovich before the show, she mentioned that the inspiration was seeing a photograph of Russian Ballerina Alexandra Danilova. The makeup followed the ballet theme as the models were meant to look like off-duty ballet dancers. The makeup was quite natural but with a pastel lip.

The hair was inspired by Jane Birkin and models had fringe pieces to nail the look. Their hair were plaited, ran through a straightener then unraveled for the beachy wavy look. For specific details, check out the piece I wrote for the NZ backstage blog.

Here are some of the runway looks:

I’ve known about the brand RUBY well before the show, I like going in to the store or at The Department Store and looking at their clothign. I know whatever RUBY brings out will make a killing because the brand has such great following too. I loved a few pieces in the collection but my favourite is this simple black combo.

The collection can be worn straight off the runway. RUBY made it easy too because they had a pop-up store in the middle of the runway so everyone can purchase their favourite items in the collection.

Before the runway show finished, we were surprised with a dance number. I took a short video of what went down the runway.

Overall, the RUBY show was fun. I enjoyed the clothing, the entertainment and although I was absolutely exhausted after that, it was a great end to my first day at NZFW.
